Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog: Anna Katrina Artistry!

I’m so excited to be launching something new and shiny.

Now, I’ve had blogs before. I diligently updated my Blogger all through college. I wrote about whatever crossed my mind—it could have been about something that happened during the day or something I found myself dwelling on. I do miss that blog. I miss putting into words what I feel and think about different topics.

So, why a new blog? Why not just continue the old? I thought about it. But you see, I’m a different person now than I was then. I’ve grown a lot in the three-plus years since I got my Bachelor’s degree. It seemed that younger me deserved that space to exist and the current me deserved a new space to explore.

There are some things about this blog you should know:

Different days of the week will be assigned different topics. You’ve probably already noticed these—Sew Monday, Book Review Tuesday, Food Friday, and Craft Saturday. These days are self-explanatory. Today—Reflection Sunday—will be more of a traditional blog. It will hearken back to the old Blogger account.

While some of the other days will focus more on DIY projects, they may not necessarily be tutorials (though they could be). I want the overarching theme of this space to be about how stories are woven into the every day. It may look like a simple potholder—but what’s the story behind it?

I’m going to start with just a couple days to begin with. This month I’ll be posting to Reflection Sunday and Sew Monday, so be looking for those. In December I’ll start Food Friday in honor of the yummy foods that we serve during the holidays.

I got the idea for this blog over the summer. This summer marked the end of my graduate studies. I officially received my Master of Fine Arts degree in Genre Fiction, and that meant once again facing the question: “What are you going to do next?” Just like when I graduated with my BA, I didn’t know the answer.

In our final summer class we made plans for what we wanted to accomplish in the year after we graduated. My list included:

1.     Start a blog. Which I now get to check off my list!

2.     Publish a short story. Still working on this.

3.    Work on the sequel to my thesis. Thanks to NaNoWriMo, I’m off to a great start!

So here I am, working on my post graduation checklist—and I’m glad you’re along for the ride too!

I hope that you have noticed the beautiful design of the site. I owe a huge thanks to Kris Easler Illustration for designing the logo and banners. Kristin and I have been friends since undergraduate, and I am thrilled she had time to work with me. Please take the time to go look at her Facebook page and website. She’s working on some children’s book illustrations right now, and I cannot get over how much I love her art. I know you’ll enjoy it, too!

Blessings,

Anna Katrina
