Cherry and Peach Dump Cake
This is a fun and easy dessert to make when you’re looking for something sweet but don’t want to spend a ton of time on it. Also, I don’t like the name of this dessert, but I don’t know what else to call it. Dump Cake just doesn’t sound good though.
For some reason, this is a very summery dessert for me. Mom usually made this in the summertime. It would be just as yummy in the winter though, so I’m not sure why we only have it in the summer. Maybe it’s the fruit? But you use pie filling, so it’s not like you’re waiting for the fruit to be in season…. Huh. Just because it’s a summertime dessert for me doesn’t mean it has to be. Make it when you want.
I like this recipe because it’s easy to modify and adjust to your preferences.
You need 1½ sticks (12 Tbls) of butter, a vanilla cake mix (we had a white cake mix, but yellow would have given it a nicer color), pie filling.
Start by spraying the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch cake pan and preheating the oven to 350ºF.
We did something a little different this time. We used a small can of cherry pie filling and a can of drained peach slices. In hindsight, we probably should have used a large can of pie filling. Pour (dump) the pie filling into the pan and then add the peaches on top of that.
Spread (dump) the cake mix over the top of the fruit filling. Try to break of big clumps, but don’t worry about it too much.
Cut the butter into small pieces and sprinkle (dump?) it over the top of the cake mix. It’s a lot of butter.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, until it’s golden brown on top. If you use a yellow cake mix it will be a nicer golden color. The white cake mix is kind of pale… but it tastes good!
You can serve this with Cool Whip if you have some. We made a glaze to drizzle over the top this time. It was good!
If you try another combo of flavors, let me know what you try and how it goes!
