Quick Tip: Raggy T-Shirt Quilts
Today’s Sew Monday is going to be short—hence being called a Quick Tip. I’ve been home with a head cold today and just resting. Head colds in the spring are the worst—and we’re definitely getting spring vibes around here today! It stinks being sick when it’s 80 degrees outside. But I wanted to share this with you all.
I’ve been working on more Raggy T-shirt Quilts since my original post about them. In the previous quilts I’ve made, I tended to struggle with the quilting part of it. Sometimes the sewing machine would struggle pulling the material through and I came to dread that part of the process.
On the last quilt I made there were a couple shirts that had a lot of silk print—more than usual. I always hesitate to draw my guideline on the print because I’m never sure it will go completely away. So, on a hunch, I decided to draw my crisscross on the back of the block (on the flannel backing). This meant that I sewed the crisscross with the t-shirt faced down. I can’t tell you how much easier this made the whole quilting process!
Where I used to struggle with quilting, it went quick and easy. Even those shirts with a lot of silk print went fast.
So there’s your quick tip for Raggy T-Shirt Quilts!
