Raggy Burp Cloths

Raggy Burp Cloths

It’s nice to have small projects to break up the monotony that can occur with big projects. I’ve been working on a couple different quilts over the last couple weeks—which are a lot of fun but a lot of work. My aunt emailed me at the perfect time—she needed a security blanket and coordinating burp cloths.

These burp cloths are easy and fun.

For each one you need three layers of flannel. The dimensions I use for burp cloths are 8 inches by 20 inches. I managed to find two flannel fat quarters that were perfect for the colors I was looking for. Here’s what I got for flannel—though you could adjust this as you see fit.

  • ½ yard plain grey
  • ½ yard plain mint
  • 1 fat quarter of mint with white arrows
  • 1 fat quarter of grey with owls and forest animals

You need a total of 1½ yards of flannel.

Cut your flannel into 20in x 8in pieces.

Stack the layers in the desired order. I alternated the backing and middle so that one grey owl had a grey back and one had a mint back. And I did the same for the mint with arrows. Again though, do what you like!

Sew a zig zag around the edges of each stack with a ½ inch seam.

Snip along the edge to make the raggy effect.

Wash and dry the burp cloths.

Look at how cute they are?

I love this grey, white, and mint color scheme. I’m also pleased with how well the security blanket coordinates with the burp cloths. Too fun!
