Triangle Practice: Coasters

Triangle Practice: Coasters

I meant to have a different Sew Monday this week—I wanted to have the next installment for the Pinwheel Quilt (see part one here). However, I’m a few dozen triangles away from having that post ready to go.

Since I am working really hard to get part two done on that project, I’m going to give you a short Sew Monday.

As you may recall, one of my early Sew Mondays is called Triangle Practice: Potholders. This project uses the same materials and a lot of the same techniques. For the nitty-gritty details, you should go look at that post. I went into a lot of details on how to make the triangles and how to do the backing/binding.

I only used four sets of triangles for each coaster. When it came to arranging the triangles, I did two coasters with the colors on the inside of the diamond shape and two with grey materials inside.

I like this design because it’s also a way to see how to make diamonds when sewing. It’s all of these small puzzle pieces coming together that help me design big quilts.

For the coasters I only used one layer of batting instead of two. They need to be absorbent, but they’re not going to be shielding your hands or table from boiling hot pans. I quilted through the top and the batting and added the backing afterwards.

This is a fun and easy project. What colors would you choose?
