July Wedding Gift #3: Potholders
These weddings always have a way of sneaking up on me. My own wedding will probably be like that someday.
For this final wedding in July, I chose to make potholders. My original plan was to try out some disappearing nine-patch patterns. (This is where you make a nine-patch block and then cut it up and sew it back together.)
That was my plan. But when I got done with assembling the nine-patch, I just really liked the size and shape of it. By “shape” I mean the pattern and arrangement of the colors.
Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a simple design. Part of designing these things is knowing when to stop and when to push on. It’s part of the art of creating—it’s true in all different forms: sewing, writing, and painting.
After I had the nine-patches done, I assembled them like I do every other potholder. Complete with 2 layers of batting and folding over the edges of the backing for the binding.
Easy. Simple. Fun and functional.
And beautiful, if I do say so myself!
