Nutella Cheesecake Puppy Chow

Nutella Cheesecake Puppy Chow

One of my new coworkers has a birthday this weekend and that means that we had a food Friday at work! Which turned out perfectly for my blog post!

I wanted to do something easy, and somebody else mentioned cupcakes. Puppy chow sounded good. It’s not an original concept though. And honestly, the original is better than this recipe. But if you’re looking for something different, you should try this!

What you need:

  • 1 stick of butter (½ cup)
  • ¾ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup white chocolate chips (you can replace this with more semi sweet)
  • ½ cup of Nutella
  • 1 box of Chex cereal (12oz)
  • 1 pkg cheesecake pudding mix
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

I actually made this recipe twice. I bought enough ingredients to make double because I have a couple different events this weekend. I was just going to make one massive batch, but then got worried about whether it would work. I didn’t want to waste all of the ingredients if it wasn’t any good.

In the first batch I put everything in a pot on the stove except the powdered sugar and cereal. I melted the butter, added the choco chips (semi sweet and white), pudding powder, and finally the Nutella.

The texture of the chocolate changed and almost got grainy. I assumed this was from the pudding mix.

I did my best to incorporate the chocolate mixture into the cereal. I worried that it wouldn’t stick very well.

After I stirred it as best as I could, I added the cereal to a gallon sized Ziploc bag with the powdered sugar and shook it up. This is by far the most fun part.

It tastes good. But some pieces had more chocolate than others.

I was grateful for a second chance.

For the second batch, I put the pudding mix in the powdered sugar instead of the chocolate.

The chocolate still seemed grainy. So I don’t know if it was the Nutella? Maybe it got too hot? I’m not sure. (Any suggestions would be great!) It’s possible a double boiler would have helped, but I don’t have one. So. You know.

Batch #2 was also good and I think you could taste the cheesecake better.

The flavor is good. The execution was alright. Maybe you’ll have better luck than me! Give it a try and let me know how it goes! Enjoy!
