Dragons Love Tacos
Dragons Love Tacos

Now, you would think that I would be gravitated to this book because it involves dragons. But I didn’t know this book existed until my Second Grade Buddy brought it with him to read with me one day. Have you noticed that a lot of my favorite picture books are associated with my Buddy? That’s because there’s something cool about watching a kiddo’s reaction to a book. It’s cool to see them enjoy something you enjoy. It’s even cooler to see a kiddo excited about sharing something with you.
I giggled so much as we read this book. It’s so funny, and the illustrations are great. My buddy picked up that I liked it, and so we read it a couple more times throughout the year.
It’s not a complicated story. It’s all about how much dragons love tacos, but hate spicy food. Why would dragons hate spicy food? Well, you’ll have to read the book to find out! But they also love parties! And they especially love taco parties!
While I say it’s not complicated, it does still tell a good story. It makes you ask questions. It follows a series of events—it has structure. The characters are fun and the setting is entertaining—who doesn’t want to live a world where dragons come to taco parties? Dragons? Taco parties? Yes, please!
Some of my favorite things about this book are actually in the extra stuff—like the synopsis on the dust jacket being directions for throwing a great party, and the author and illustrator bios being recipes for their respective fields. So fun. I’m a sucker for quality packaging—and the dust jacket is basically the packaging of the book.
This is a fun book that is sure to make kiddos and adults laugh together. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes dragons or anyone who likes tacos. Anyone, really. Track down a copy of this book and read it with your kiddos. Or read it for you. Adults can enjoy picture books too.
